With the market as its orientation and taking demands of railway transportation production as its own task, China Academy of Railway Sciences (CARS) has always been devoting to make researches on new technology and develop actively new products in order to serve the market. It has undertaken thousands of state and ministry scientific research projects centering on the following areas: supervision system of train operation safety (ground supervision system for car operation status, inspection system for freight train operation status, comprehensive safety inspection car, track inspection car, rapid rail defect inspection car, car swing body, hotbox inspection car, cab signal recorder, passenger train black box etc.), speed-up and high-speed technology, passenger tickets selling and booking system, matching products of braking system (passenger and freight train, subway, light rail), rock and soil engineering, track structure, jointless track, bridge and tunnel building, engineering blasting, automation of marshalling yard, station computer interlocking system, dispatching control, radio communication, optical fibre communication, data transmission, computer application, new metallic and nonmetallic material and techniques, non-destructive flaw detection technology, automatic inspection, passenger and freight transport organization, transport economy, load and unload machinery, basic standard, scientific technology information and soft sciences etc. Great amount of scientific and technologic results and new products have been achieved and developed in the above areas. They have been applied in the railway transportation production. The CARS has become the center for railway scientific research, experiment, infrastructure facility inspection, industry products and material inspection as well as scientific and technological information etc.
